The historical town of Woudsend is located at the very heart of the Frisian lake area, between Heegermeer and Slotermeer, and moreover, the route of the Eleven cities tour leads past Woudsend (“Elfstedentocht”, a tour leading past all eleven historical cities of the province).
Woudsend is a historical trading town, with a picturesque old town centre. In the town centre you will find vintage alleyways, historical buildings, art galleries and two windmills: Houtzaagmolen de Jager and Korenmolen ‘t Lam. Also, there are several nice restaurants to be found, and terraces along the waterside.
In summer, there is a lot going on in Woudsend. There is a weekly market, where authentic local products can be purchased, and also other interesting products. In addition to this, there are also fun activities for people of all ages.
From Woudsend, you can sail along picturesque villages, towns and Frisian cities, such as Sneek and Leeuwarden, but also Bolsward, Workum, Sloten and Stavoren, which are worth a visit as well. Well known popular water sports towns like Eernewoude and Grou are also easily accessible, as well as national park De Âlde Feanen, which is located close to De Drait’s service point in Drachten.
